Mild Buffalo Sauce | Everyday Family Cooking

Mild Buffalo Sauce | Everyday Family Cooking

My mild Buffalo sauce is slightly spicy without being overpowering, thanks to the addition of sweet tomato sauce. It’s perfect for wings, dressings, sandwiches, and more and is ready in 10 minutes!

Those who know me, know how much I love Buffalo sauce! I add it to pretty much any savory dish…from my morning eggs to my mid-day sandwich to my wings for dinner.

It’s spicy, tangy, and creamy and pairs well with so much.

Buffalo sauce was first created in Buffalo, New York, which is where it gets its name. Legend has it that restaurant owner Teressa Bellissimo came up with the sauce when preparing a snack for her son.

She fried up some chicken wings and then topped them with hot sauce, cayenne pepper, and butter. And so, Buffalo sauce was born.

My husband is from Buffalo, so it’s a staple in our meals!

Mild Buffalo sauce, mild Buffalo wing sauce…whatever you call it, I’ve got a really easy recipe that you can follow to make it from scratch.

Learn everything you need to know about how to make mild wing sauce below.

In the meantime, know that it’s made with only 5 ingredients that you likely already have at home.

You’ll be able to enjoy the best mild Buffalo wings slathered in my mild buffalo wing sauce in no time!

How to Make Mild Wing Sauce

A full printable version of this recipe with ingredient measurements is available at the bottom of this post.

STEP ONE: Add the butter, Frank’s hot sauce, tomato sauce, garlic powder, and soy sauce to a small saucepan.

ingredients in a pan

STEP TWO: Heat over medium until the butter has melted and all of the ingredients are well combined. Make sure to stir often to prevent burning!

STEP THREE: Allow your mild Buffalo sauce to cool a bit before serving. This mild wing sauce recipe also works wonderfully as a dipping sauce or in a dressing!

What to Serve with Mild Buffalo Sauce From Scratch

Variations for This Mild Wing Sauce Recipe

  • Start with my buffalo sauce from scratch to save time. It already includes the extra ingredients like butter and seasonings so you’ll only have to add the tomato sauce.
  • Add some honey for more sweetness — you can try my honey buffalo sauce!
  • Serve alongside blue cheese and ranch sauce for more dipping options.
  • Use Worcestershire sauce, tamari, or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.

What is Mild Buffalo Sauce Made Of?

My mild wing sauce recipe is made with Frank’s hot sauce, tomato sauce, soy sauce, garlic powder, and butter.

I find that the addition of sweet tomatoes does much to tone down the spice of the hot sauce. You’ll get all of the flavors without worrying about too much heat.

mild buffalo sauce in a jar

How Do You Mild Down Buffalo Sauce?

The key to mild sauce is in the butter and the tomato sauce. The added dairy takes away some of the spice, and the sweetness of the tomatoes balances out the heat.

I also recommend serving it with another dipping sauce, like ranch or blue cheese. Again, the dairy takes away the heat but leaves the flavor!

Is Buffalo Sauce the Same as Mild?

Traditional Buffalo sauce is considered to be moderately spicy. It’s tangy and creamy thanks to the addition of butter.

I would say that Buffalo is medium in terms of spice level, which is higher than mild.

That’s why I wanted to create this mild wing sauce recipe for those who find Buffalo too hot.

jar with mild wing sauce

Is Buffalo Sauce Always Spicy?

No, and my mild Buffalo sauce is proof! Yes, this condiment is slightly spicy, but the tomato sauce and butter do a great job of tampering with the heat.

You’ll be able to make mild wings easily and quickly with the addition of my mild sauce!

National Cannabis Festival features 2 Chainz, policy, food and culture

National Cannabis Festival features 2 Chainz, policy, food and culture

The National Cannabis Festival, which returns to the RFK Stadium grounds for the seventh time this weekend, is known for its mix of activism and hip-hop, with past musical headliners including De La Soul, Ghostface Killah and Ludacris. This year, 2 Chainz, Juicy J and Free Nationals are topping the bill for a day-long show expected to attract thousands on Saturday, but festival founder Caroline Phillips is trying to create something much bigger than a concert.

“We hope that the National Cannabis Festival can become sort of like a South by Southwest for cannabis lovers,” she says, “where people are coming here for a full week of policy programing, cultural events and opportunities to network, all capstoned by the festival that takes place over the weekend.”

Organizers planned a whole slate of events in D.C., including policy forums, restaurant specials, DJ nights and a 4/20 fun run. The festival itself is introducing an LGBTQ lounge and will also hold pavilions focused on entrepreneurship, wellness and culture. (And, to answer the big question, no, smoking pot is not legal at the festival, but we’re betting the scent will still be in the air.)

Here’s what you need to know about the festival’s expanding activities.

You can have the munchies for a whole week

Food has always played a role at the festival — the Munchies Zone includes a mix of food trucks and chefs serving special dishes. This year, though, the deals have been extended outside of the gates, with nine days of wink-wink food and drink specials at local restaurants, running through Sunday. Among the highlights: Dolcezza’s “Munchies” adds peanut butter cups and chocolate-covered pretzels and potato chips to milk chocolate gelato. All Purpose Shaw’s Italian 420 cocktail spikes gin, prosecco, cassis and lemon with a CBD-infused rose syrup. Jerk at Nite offers the choice of its Jamaican-style Yardie platter with a patty or jerk chicken and mac. The full menu is on the festival website.

Bring your running shoes — or your dancing shoes

420 Week, with three days of events leading up to the festival, brings a mix of activities, including a mushroom cultivation workshop and a networking social sponsored by the National Association of Black Cannabis Lawyers. Among the highlights: A 4.2-mile 4/20 run, starting at Meridian Hill Park on Thursday morning; a 4/20 Kickback social event at Songbyrd on Thursday night, with music and video; and a free Friday night party at Wild Days, the Eaton hotel’s rooftop bar.

The music goes beyond the headliners

2 Chainz and Juicy J are “so revered in the cannabis community,” Phillips says, but there’s local representation at the concert, thanks to Backyard Band — “our house go-go band” — and a first-time performance by D.C.’s Cumbia Heights. “As the festival has grown, we have had to expand the music offerings to make sure that we are bringing a music experience together that appeals to our very diverse audience,” she says. “This year, we’re really excited to be bringing Cumbia Heights to the festival to make sure that we have some music that represents the Latin American community in D.C.”

Grow your own? Learn from the best.

While D.C., Maryland and Virginia all have different rules about purchasing or accessing marijuana, each jurisdiction does (or will) allow residents to possess their own plants. New this year at the festival itself is a Grower’s World, where festivalgoers can meet participants and judges from the National Cannabis Championship — a celebration of homegrown cannabis flowers. “Folks can talk to them about the methods they’ve used to grow such great plants,” Phillips says, or ask, “This is my setup at home — what should I be doing differently?” There will also be vendors selling equipment for those inspired to upgrade.

Wondering about the future of weed? You might find it at CannaTank.

Since the beginning of the festival, it has hosted a “Shark Tank”-style competition that allows budding entrepreneurs to pitch a cannabis-related business venture to win cash and face time with PR teams, among other prizes. This year’s participants are Upling, a dispensary delivery app billed as “DoorDash for weed”; Natural Elevation Snacks, a line of organic oat and honey snacks; Herban Holistic Healthcare, which offers wellness and cannabis coaching; and “The Phytos,” a “pot edutainment comic about a team of terpenes and cannabinoids.” The finalists offer their final pitches at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Even Official Washington participates in 420 Week

While marijuana legalization and reform movements evolve across the country, “there are still many challenges ahead,” Phillips says. The National Cannabis Policy Summit, first held in 2018, brings together lawmakers, business leaders, lobbyists and advocates at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center on Thursday to discuss the current landscape. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) will deliver the keynote speech; the event is free for the public to attend. Even Phillips is sometimes stunned by how far public sentiment about cannabis has come in recent years: “I think if you’d asked me eight years ago if our event would be invited into the United States Capitol, let alone having the Senate majority leader deliver the keynote address, I would have told you, ‘I don’t know if that’s going to happen.’”

The cover of “Vegetable Revelations” evokes Salvador Dali, mainly because the surrealistic still life features meat and seafood hanging above the produce. Although all of the recipes in the cookbook are vegetable-forward, meat and fish occasionally make an appearance.

“I liked the idea of that, because to me this is an omnivore’s vegetable book,” Satterfield said. “But it could be interpreted in so many different ways. If you’re a vegan, there are plenty of options. If you’re a meat-eater who wants to get more produce into your diet, it’s a great solution.”

The headnotes to the recipes “explore the feelings” of each dish, Satterfield allowed. “They might conjure a hot sunny summer day, or a walk through the woods.”

Satterfield puts an emphasis on using every part of the vegetable, and not wasting any of the flavorful bits. He offers ideas for transforming asparagus bottoms into a lovely spring soup and using beet roots with their green tops for a stir-fry.

“That was a big thing in “Root to Leaf,” and that’s a big thing in my life’s work, and a big thing at the restaurant,” he said.

“‘Vegetable Revelations’ is about rediscovering the joy of cooking with vegetables. The triumph is that we came up with a beautiful book that still celebrates whole vegetable cooking — and there’s still so much more to explore.”

RECIPES

These recipes from James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef Steven Satterfield offer ways to cook a wide range of vegetables, with a variety dishes for each season. Arranged by both botanical families and culinary categories, the recipes are truly “Vegetable Revelations.”

Gingered Carrot Bisque

“You know those carrots that look like they were maybe forgotten in the field and got really big? That’s the kind I like to use here,” writes Steven Satterfield about this bisque recipe. “They have an earthy sweetness that gives body and depth to this soup laced with hints of ginger, lime, star anise and clove.” The tangy cultured dairy garnish adds a nice contrast to the mellow spices.

Fava Bean Primavera With Spring Hazelnut-Herb Pesto

Fava beans require shucking and shelling, but the extra work is worth the effort. Chef Steven Satterfield calls the combination of sweet favas, al dente pasta and mixed-herb pesto “spring eating at its best.”

Ginger-Pecan Zucchini Crisp

“Using summer squash in baking should go far beyond zucchini bread,” says Satterfield, as he experiments with treating zucchini “as the fruit that it is.” Taking classic apple crisp as his cue, ginger and pecans add zing and crunch to the streusel topping.

World Liver Day 2023: 6 amazing recipes to reverse fatty liver

World Liver Day 2023: 6 amazing recipes to reverse fatty liver

Fatty liver has become a growing cause of concern due to the increasingly inactive lifestyle we all are leading and indulging in comfort food in between the meals – thus eating more than our body requires. While our liver needs some amount of fat to carry on its operations, more than 5{d2b09b03d44633acb673e8080360919f91e60962656af8ade0305d5d8b7e4889} of fat weight could be deadly. Around 40{d2b09b03d44633acb673e8080360919f91e60962656af8ade0305d5d8b7e4889} of Indians have non-alcoholic fatty liver but most of them remain unaware due to lack of symptoms in initial stages. Continuing with the unhealthy habits could worsen liver health to the extent that it can cause life threatening health conditions like cirrhosis on cancer. Fatty liver can be reversible until it is too advanced to cure. (Also read: World Liver Day 2023: Signs of fatty liver on your face, eyes and skin)

“Fatty liver is completely reversible for a long time. Only once the damage transforms into actual physical scarring and cirrhosis, does the damage become irreversible. Nearly 40{d2b09b03d44633acb673e8080360919f91e60962656af8ade0305d5d8b7e4889} of Indians have some or the other Non-Alcoholic fatty liver stage today. The key reason for such high numbers is quite simple really. It’s our lifestyle. We are eating more than ever before, our food is more processed than ever before, we are seated most of the day, our sleep schedules are not in sync with our circadian rhythm anymore, and we are putting in more toxins through pollution, chemical-laden body products, food additives and more. All of this coupled with the increased prevalence of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and dyslipidaemia have come together to cause this alarming rise in fatty liver,” says Khushboo Jain Tibrewala.

On the occasion of World Liver Day, Khushboo Jain Tibrewala has launched Fatty Liver Guide, a guide with all the information for better liver health. Here are 6 recipes that can help you reverse fatty liver.

1. Moong Dal Idli

Moong Dal Idli

Idli is traditionally made using rice and black gram. The grains are soaked, ground into a paste, and then kept for fermentation for 8-10 hours. This traditional recipe itself is quite nourishing. However, for those of us who are trying to curb our carbohydrate intake, this version of the recipe is a great choice.

The overnight soaking and fermentation improve the nutritional content as well as the bioavailability of the nutrients present in the dals. Also, legumes are notorious for their lectin content (anti-nutrients). However, the processing in this recipe will reduce their lectin content considerably, making it easy to digest as well as richer in protein content.

Serves: 4 | Lunch, Dinner

Ingredients

1 cup Moong Dal

1/3 cup Urad Dal

Salt, to taste

Ghee

Method:

– Wash and soak the dals separately for 12 hours.

– During this time change the water once.

– Grind the two dals separately and then mix.

– Mix in salt.

– Keep them to ferment for 8-10 hours.

– Steam them in an Idli maker.

– Once done, rub some ghee on the hot Idlis, remove it from the Idli maker, and serve.

2. Raw Garlic Chutney

This recipe is one of the simplest, quickest and most delicious ways of eating garlic. It goes really well with dhokla, rice, idli, etc.

Ingredients

8-10 cloves Garlic

1 tsp Red Chilli Powder

1 tsp Filtered Groundnut Oil

Method:

– Peel and crush raw garlic in a mortar and pestle.

– Add chilli powder and continue grinding.

– Once it becomes a fine paste, transfer the paste to a serving bowl and mix in the oil.

– The chutney is ready to use.

3. Antioxidant salad

Antioxidant salad

Ingredients

Fistful of Baby Spinach

Fistful of Arugula

1/2 cup Steamed Beetroot

1/2 cup Roasted Pumpkin

1/2 cup Cucumber

1/4 cup Pickled Onions

1/4 cup Crushed Walnuts

1/2 cup boiled Chickpeas

Dressing:

1 tbsp Olive Oil

3 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar

Salt

Pepper

Basil leaves

Method:
